Class act

Instructors trying to get motivated for the new school year may want to check out “Teach” (7 p.m. Friday, WCCO, Ch. 4), which spotlights four public-school teachers who excel at inspiring their brats — er, I mean, students. Queen Latifah, whose mother taught in the New Jersey system, narrates.

Ross’ reign

Ross Matthews, who made the most of his “Tonight Show” internship, finally lands a talk show of his own. “Hello Ross” (9 p.m. Friday, E!) will lean heavily on social media, which means some lucky viewers are going to have a chance to snark directly with the master.

This just in

KQRS’ Tom Barnard is among the first voices you hear in “9-11: The Heartland Tapes” (7 p.m. Sunday, Smithsonian), an un-narrated collection of sound bites from radio and TV stations outside the Beltway on that fateful day in 2001.

Nucky charms

Nobody messes with Nucky Thompson — unless your last name happens to be Capone. Al and his brothers look to play bigger roles in Season 4 of “Boardwalk Empire” (8 p.m. Sunday, HBO), which will also introduce us to Harlem power broker Valentin Narcisse, played by the always mesmerizing Jeffrey Wright.
