Cirque du Soleil's 'Varekai'

Opens Thursday: By now, Cirque du Soleil, founded by street performers in Quebec in 1984, has its creative process down to a formula. Create a fantastical, fairy-tale-like world full of magical, otherworldly creatures. Add a mythic narrative that could have been crafted by Joseph Campbell. Stir or, more appropriately, flip. In the case of "Varekai," a solitary figure drops out of the sky into a misty world. Colorful (and highly acrobatic) adventures ensue. (4 p.m. Thu., 4 & 7:30 p.m. Fri.-Sat., 1:30 & 5 p.m. next Sun. $30-$150. Target Center, 600 1st Av. N., Mpls. 1-888-929-7849, cirquedusoleil.com/varekai.)
