SHERBURNE NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE FALL OPEN HOUSE

The morning starts with a wildlife poker run. Families can pick up a map and drive to five special refuge sites to learn about the new education facility. Other activities include a book signing by author and photographer Stan Tekiela, children’s crafts, outdoor fun and face painting, music and more. Stop by the Eagle’s Nest Nature Store for holiday gifts. (10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sat. Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge, 17076 293rd Av., Zimmerman, Minn. 763-389-3323. www.fws.gov/midwest/sherburne.)

NATURAL ORNAMENTS AND GIFTS

Holiday decorations and presents don’t have to come from a department store. Go on a hike and collect items to make gifts from nature’s bounty. Learn about ways to have a “greener” holiday season. Reservations required. (10 a.m.-noon Sat. $5. Kroening Interpretive Center, 4900 N. Mississippi Court, Mpls. 763-559-6700. www.threeriversparkdistrict.org.)
