Trevor Noah's ascension to hosting "The Daily Show" took over Twitter Monday morning, with a variety of reactions to the 31-year-old biracial South African taking over for Jon Stewart.

The Daily Show tweeted out noting there would be another late night host from Africa.

Very excited to welcome our next host: @Trevornoah! That's right – another guy in late night from Soweto. http://t.co/zlNhBmjg6I

BuzzMachine author Jeff Jarvis told everybody to stop what they're doing:

Really. Stop work for 8 minutes. Watch. This will calm your fears about the fate of The Daily Show. https://t.co/afQwj2uC60

Noah's riff on the difference between being African and African American is one of funniest things I've ever heard. http://t.co/yMaEO5EbTS

And a Noah enthusiast exclaimed the South African to now be the most powerful man in the country.

At long last, a black man has made it to the most powerful position in America. http://t.co/yPUeXl1YH2

The rest of Twitter was fairly happy:

Choosing Trevor Noah for The Daily Show says a lot about the audience Comedy Central wants to court: global, diverse.

Don't understand the negativity around Noah & The Daily Show. Whether you like him or not, can't we be happy for a SA'n success?

Trevor Noah's jokes are genuinely international. His hiring at @TheDailyShow is proof that 'Go global' is future of news … in comedy, too.

If not hiring a woman to host a late-night show "invites questions," shouldn't you just ask rather than writing that? http://t.co/Eg2ImCJKab

Love the Trevor Noah choice because – hopefully – it immediately re-centers the Daily Show's perspective outside the US. Reinvents show.
