Linda LeGarde Grover of Duluth has won the Flannery O'Connor Award for Short Fiction for her collection, "The Dance Boots." Grover is an assistant professor of American Indian studies at the University of Minnesota Duluth. "The Dance Boots" will be published in September by the University of Georgia Press.

•The Minnesota Center for Book Arts celebrates its 25th anniversary on Saturday with a free open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Spend the day making art (guided by center instructors), or get your caricature drawn, make paper, watch demonstrations on paper marbling and book repair, or try out letterpress printing. •The 20th annual Twin Cities book fair takes place Friday and Saturday at the State Fairgrounds in Falcon Heights. Sponsored by the Midwest Antiquarian Booksellers Association, the sale includes hundreds of used books, rare books, first editions, maps and prints, postcards and other collectibles. The entry fee -- $6 opening night, $5 the next day -- goes toward libraries in need. Last year, donations were made to the library in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which had been damaged by floods, and to St. Paul's Arlington Heights Library, damaged by vandalism. Doors open Friday at 4 p.m., and at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

•"The Wind Blows, the Ice Breaks: Poems of Loss and Renewal by Minnesota Poets," edited by Ted Bowman and Elizabeth Bourque Johnson, has been published by Nodin Press. The collection includes poems by Meridel LeSueur, Robert Bly, Michael Dennis Browne, Thomas McGrath, Phebe Hanson, Barton Sutter, Kathryn Kysar and a multitude of other familiar names.

•"Magic Below Stairs," a middle-school novel by Caroline Stevermer of Minneapolis, has been published by the Dial Press. The book is about an orphan boy who is chosen to be the footboy to a wizard.
