"Extended Family: Essays on Being Irish-American From New Hibernia Review" has been published by Dafour Editions. Editor Jim Rogers and essayist Brian Nerney will help launch the collection at 7:30 p.m. June 25 at O'Gara's, 164 N. Snelling Av., St. Paul.

The anthology includes 11 personal essays, three annotated articles and one long poem, all of which were originally published in New Hibernia Review, a quarterly journal published by the University of St. Thomas' Center for Irish Studies. Rogers is editor of the review and director of the center. Nerney teaches at Metro State.

The reception is free and open to the public and will be emceed by Kieran Folliard.

• "Darkness Sticks to Everything," new and collected poems by Tom Hennen, has been published by Copper Canyon Press. Hennen is the author of six books of poetry. He lives in St. Paul.

• "Surfaces: A History," by Joseph Amato, has been published by the University of California Press. Amato's book examines surfaces, including human skin, streets and the natural world. Amato is emeritus professor of history at Southwest Minnesota State University and the author of several books.

• "Minneapolis Madams: The Lost History of Prostitution on the Riverfront," by Penny Petersen, will be published in July by the University of Minnesota Press. Petersen is the author of "Hiding in Plain Sight: Minneapolis' First Neighborhood." The book will be launched at 7 p.m. June 27 at the Mill City Museum in Minneapolis, and Petersen will read at 7:30 p.m. July 9 at Magers & Quinn in Uptown Minneapolis.

• "The Cydonian Pyramid," by Pete Hautman, has been published by Candlewick Press. Hautman is the author of "The Big Crunch," the National Book Award-winning "Godless" and many other books. He lives in the Twin Cities.

• "Two Old Potatoes," by Twin Cities writer John Coy, is back in print with Nodin Press. It was originally published by Random House. Coy will be at the Bemidji Writers Festival on Tuesday.

• "By the Way," essays on the great outdoors by Minneapolis writer John Toren, has been published by Nodin Press. Toren will read at 7:30 p.m. June 27 at Magers & Quinn in Uptown.

• "The Quirks: Welcome to Normal," a children's book by Erin Soderberg of Minneapolis, has been published by Bloomsbury.
