Larry Graham on Letterman on Tuesday night

Bass legend Larry Graham, who has called Chanhassen home for the past 12 years, will sit in with Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra on "the Late Show with David Letterman" on Tuesday night.

Speaking from New York on Monday, Graham wasn't sure how the situation is going to work since Will Lee plays bass in the CBS Orchestra. Graham said he was awaiting a call from bandleader Shaffer.

Graham, a longtime member of Sly & the Family Stone, said he's performed in double bass situations before -- once on a tour with jazz bass giant Stanley Clarke and a drummer, and in Prince's band with Rhonda Smith.

Graham doesn't yet know what the Letterman repertoire will be, but we're hoping a Sly Stone hit is included that will afford TV viewers a chance to hear Graham's bass profundo voice as well.

Graham's own band performs Wednesday at B.B. King's in New York City and Friday at the Minnesota Zoo. Look for an interview with Graham in Friday's Star Tribune.
