Big Quarters release new video, announce third album

Posted by: Tom Horgen under Music Updated: October 19, 2011 - 10:35 AM

The brothers in Big Quarters are back -- first with a new music video, followed by a release date for their third full-length album, "Party Like a Young Commie." The duo, Medium Zach and Brandon Allday, are known for their dusty, intricately-composed beats and earnest lyrics. The upcoming album's first single, "C'mon," continues the trend. Older brother Brandon raps solo, almost reintroducing the group's Chicano/Minnesota ethics over a booming production that would be right at home on an early Tribe Called Quest album (Brandon made the beat too). The video (directed by Medium Zach and Galen Fletcher) is old school, shot on 16mm at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. Check it out:

"Party Like a Young Commie" will be released on Nov. 29. The album follows Big Quarters' successful 2009 album, "From the Home of Brown Babies & White Mothers." For the new album, the brothers enlisted live musicians to accompany their sample-based productions. Proceeds from CD sales will be donated to youth
programming at Hope Community.

I profiled the duo for vita.mn around the time of their 2007 debut ("Cost of Living"). Read that story here.
