"Happy Monday" reads a cheery sticker on the top of large Caribou coffee drinks being sold today:
"Any bakery item just $1 with purchase of large drink."
Well, OK, you've already bought and paid for the drink by the time you get the sticker. But, hey, just save it for another day of the week. Like NEXT Monday.
Not so fast. Sticker says "Peel Here." On the other side, in very small type:
"Valid at participating Caribou Coffee stores only. Coupons cannot be duplicated. Not for resale under any circumstances. Customer must present coupon at time of purchase. OFFER NOT VALID ON MONDAYS (emphasis added), with any other offer or online."
Caribou's director of brand communications, Lauren Mihajlov, said this afternoon that its "Happy Monday" promotion has been running for months, with different offers on Mondays that are meant to give customers a little incentive to come back later in the week.
While this specific sticker may read a little odd, she said, it's the entire campaign that's called "Happy Monday."
