An Anoka distributor of boys' recreational ice skates is participating in a voluntary national recall because of concerns about lead, federal regulators announced this morning.

About 600 pair of Chinese-made DBX Glide Boys Ice Skates, distributed by Pronto Sports Inc. of Anoka, are being recalled because the skates "contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard," said the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The lead is in the paint on the skates' exterior, the commission said.

The skates are black with lime green and silver accents. "Glide" is printed on a rubber tag on the side of the skates. "DBX" and the DBX logo are on the ice skate's ankle strap, tongue and heel.

They were sold nationally at Dick's Sporting Goods from September 2008 through December 2008.

Consumers who have the skates are urged to immediately take them from children and contact Pronto Sports for a full refund. Pronto Sports can be reached at 1-877-755-4882 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. CDT Monday through Friday or visit the www.prontosports.com.
