The AFL-CIO said Tuesday that its boycott of American Crystal Sugar includes Market Pantry-branded sugar sold at Target stores in the Upper Midwest.

The national labor organization earlier this month announced a boycott of retail products made by Moorhead-based Crystal Sugar, which locked out its 1,300 union workers in a labor dispute on Aug. 1, 2011.

About 10 percent of the company's output is sold through food retailers under the American Crystal Sugar brand and store brands like Target's Market Pantry. The boycott affects Market Pantry sugar sold in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and North Dakota, the AFL-CIO said.

Target said it doesn't comment on its vendor relationships.

American Crystal Sugar, which is operating its five plants with replacement workers, is the nation's largest beet sugar producer. Most of its sugar is sold to food producers like bakeries and confectioners.
