Biofuels company Gevo Inc. acquired the Luverne, Minn., ethanol plant in 2010. It's being converted into the nation's first commercial-scale corn-to-isobutanol plant.

Project cost: $40 million

Construction workers: 200

Completion/start-up: June

Output: 18 million gal./year
