Joe Christensen covered Major League Baseball for 15 years, including three seasons at the Baltimore Sun and eight at the Star Tribune, before switching to the college football beat. He’s a Faribault, Minn., native who graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1996. He covered Jim Wacker’s Gophers for the Minnesota Daily and also wrote about USC, UCLA and the Rose Bowl for the Riverside Press-Enterprise before getting this chance to cover football again.

Email Joe to talk about the Gophers.

Horton hiring is official

Posted by: under College football Updated: January 22, 2010 - 6:56 PM

Just a quick note. Showing remarkable speed, the Gophers have made the hiring of Jeff Horton official. I'll be talking to coach in a bit and will be writing the story for tomorrow's paper.

Here's what coach Tim Brewster had to say in the official release: I'm thrilled to have Jeff Horton join our staff," he said. "He brings tremendous leadership and experience running offenses and coaching quarterbacks. I think he's a tremendous teacher in all aspects of quarterback play and offensive football. His overall knowledge will help make this a seamless transition for our players."

Here's what Horton had to say in the release:

"I'm really excited about the opportunity coach Brewster is giving me here at Minnesota," Horton said. "I started my college coaching career here 26 years ago. I'm coming back to a great city, a great university and a program that is really starting to take off. I'm proud to be a part of it."

Just in time for me, by the way; with the Vikings in the NFC title game, it's become something of a all-hands-on-deck situation around here. I'll be heading to Indianapolis tomorrow to cover the AFC title game.

That's it. Just wanted to make
