By Rohan Preston The Children's Theatre Company is postponing and re-casting a show that it had scheduled with an Australian partner because of issues in getting visas for the international visitors. The Minneapolis-based company said Thursday that it is delaying "Mr. McGee & The Biting Flea," which was originally scheduled to preview January 12, by a week. It will now preview January 20. It has also re-cast the show with Twin Cities actors with the action playing out on a set created by Australia's Patch Theatre Company. The production will feature Reed Sigmund and Autumn Ness, two performers who just ended their run in "Cinderella," according to CTC public relations manager Anne Schopen. No director has been named so far but the show will still close Feb. 21. "It will work out to be a good thing," said Schopen. "Instead of it being a pure import, it is more of a collaboration now with our fantastic local actors." The company suspects that the fact that it could not obtain visas in a timely manner for its foreign collaborators may be a result of the heightened security and scrutiny of such matters following the attempted Christmas day bombing of a Northwest airliner. CTC is not alone in confronting visa issues in the era of international terror. Other arts and culture presenters, including Walker Art Center, have often been on pins and needles about the fate of announced international shows. The Children's Theatre has already shifted many of the 1,200 subscribers who were to see the show in its first week to other dates, said Schopen. Others can get vouchers. "We're taking a challenge and stepping up," she said.
