U.S. junior team routs Germany

John Gibson and Jon Gillies combined on a 26-save shutout and eight different players scored as the U.S. junior national team opened the world tournament by beating Germany 8-0 in Ufa, Russia today.

Gibson had 19 saves in two periods and Gillies seven in the third.

Two Minnesotans, defenseman Mike Reilly and winger Mario Lucia, played for the U.S. but were held off the scoresheet.
