Its governing board will meet Jan. 31 to select finalists. Once chosen for interviews, those finalists' names will become public. Until now, a search committee has been recruiting and winnowing applicants in private.

MnSCU is looking for a leader to replace Chancellor James McCormick, who has held the post for a decade. That person "will confront falling state funding, maxed-out tuition and a growing number of students seeking retraining at a bargain price," as an earlier article put it.
