A number of religious groups in the Twin Cities and beyond are renewing their efforts to help aid Haiti in light of the first anniversary of the earthquake that devasted the impoverished country.

Members of the Ja'afari Islamic Center and the Brooklyn Park Methodist Church will hold a joint volunteer event on Wednesday to pack food for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.

The two groups have been longtime interfaith partners and have packed food together in the past. They've also visited each other's services and organized picnics to build interfaith relationships between Muslim and Christian communities.

The event is organized by Kids Against Hunger, an organization that aims to reduce the number of hungry children. It will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ja'afari Islamic Center in Brooklyn Park.
