Word of the week: breakfunch

June 21, 2016 at 6:10PM

Definition: A small meal between breakfast and lunch.

Sample usage: "That cruller didn't fill me up, so I'm having 27 Lucky Charms marshmallows for breakfunch."

Popularity: You might think that "brunch" handles this situation, but no: that's a meal that replaces breakfast and lunch. Breakfunch slips in between the two. It might seem like just a justification for a between-meal snack — "Oh, there's a word for this, so it must be OK." But keep in mind that brunch is just a justification for drinking mimosas before noon.
