Ron Magers confirmed rumors that he'll be leaving the Chicago airwaves after 36 years in the highly competitive market and more than 50 years on the air, including in the Twin Cities.
Instead of donning cocktail dresses and suits and ties, concertgoers at Symphony and Suds sported jeans, raincoats and boots. Sociable Cider Werks in northeast Minneapolis hosted a horn quintet from the Minnesota Orchestra for two 30-minute sets to play a packed taproom. There's still time to experience classical music in a casual environment. The mini-concert series will continue at Surly Brewing Co. on May 5, Insight Brewing on May 12 and Fair State Brewing Co-op on July 7, all in Minneapolis.
The 13th annual benefit for the Minnesota Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome featured an appetizer buffet, silent and live auctions and a short program at the Radisson Blu in downtown Minneapolis. Guests then made their way to the Orpheum Theatre, where they were treated to a performance of "If/Then," a contemporary Broadway musical. Proceeds from the event help raise awareness of fetal alcohol syndrome and improve the quality of life for those with the disorder.
