Hall, Edmund Barnard "Barney" age 79, of Hudson, WI died on May 18, 2024, after a battle with metastatic prostate cancer. He passed peacefully surrounded by his daughters, wife, and siblings.

Barney grew up in Roseville, Minnesota, the son of Barnard Hall and Blanche Chaney Hall, and attended Macalester College, where he caught the eye of his future wife Sandy because he was wearing a shirt and pants in mismatching plaids. They married in 1968, and after a few years in Oregon and Michigan, they settled in New Hope and Plymouth, where they raised their daughters.

Barney spent over 30 years teaching AP American History at Edina High School. His love and knowledge of history was vast, but his sheer joy in how his students analyzed and applied what he taught them was one of the things that made him an exceptional teacher. He spent a number of years towards the end of his teaching career working with over 400 gifted students at Edina's two middle schools and the high school. He was universally loved and admired for his compassion, humor, and wisdom, and many of his students went on to become friends.

After retirement in 2001, Barney and Sandy settled in Hudson, Wisconsin, a place Barney loved deeply and where he made many wonderful friends.

Barney was devoted to his daughters and their activities and was known for his beautiful gardens. He was an avid sportsman, a golfer and skier in his younger days, and a coach for the ski teams at Edina. He was a devoted fan of the Gophers and Badgers sports teams, as well as the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Wild.

Barney was known for his outgoing personality, generosity, and passion for life. He never met someone he wasn't interested in, and it was very possible to be cornered by Barney for a longer chat than one might have bargained for. He leaves behind a legacy of profound connections.

Barney and his family are grateful for the kind and compassionate care he received at home and at the University of Minnesota hospitals.

Barney is survived by Sandy, his wife of 53 years; his daughter Jenny Hall (Zack Taylor); his daughter Erin Hall-Westfall (Aaron Westfall); his three beloved grandsons Sam Taylor, Tighe Westfall, and Finn Westfall; his sister Peggy Hall (Lee Barry), his brother John Hall (Sue), his nieces Meg Barry, Elizabeth Barry, Brenna Hall, Sarah Beckius, Carey Jones, his nephew Adam Meyer, and several great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to the University of Minnesota Foundation to support need-based student scholarships for nursing and women's sports. Gifts can be given online at crowdfund.umn.edu/campaign/…, or mail a check, noting it is in memory of Barney Hall, to the University of Minnesota Foundation, P.O. Box 860266, Minneapolis, MN 55486-0266.

Following a private family service, a celebration of Barney's life will be held at 7 Vines Vineyards & Winery in Dellwood, MN on Sun, July 28th from 12-3pm. Drop in any time; remarks at 1pm. Bring your memories to share.
