Haggerty, Lori Kay

Age 65, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister & aunt passed away on April 22, 2024 surrounded by family after a courageous battle with MDS, bone marrow cancer.

Lori was born in Minneapolis on March 2, 1959. She graduated from St. Francis High School and later St. Cloud State University.

Lori met Joel Haggerty at St. Cloud State University in May of 1980. Their first date was playing tennis and their wedding was on June 4, 1983. Together they raised two daughters and made homes in Flagstaff, AZ; San Diego, CA; Apple Valley, MN and a cabin in Merrifield, MN. In 1982 Lori and Joel packed up and took a 6-week trip out west with a plan to move to Boulder Colorado camping along the way. When Lori and Joel came across Sedona and Flagstaff AZ, they ended up living there for 6 wonderful years. Lori and Joel shared a love of hiking, biking, skating, skiing, camping, playing tennis and hiking the Grand Canyon rim to rim, enjoying downhill and cross-country skiing in the mountains, and also helped to coach a hockey team. After Flagstaff they moved to San Diego, CA and lived in that area for 6 years. They continued to enjoy all their favorite hobbies together in California. Lori and Joel began their family in San Diego where Mari was born and when they moved back to Minnesota, Tara was born.

Lori worked passionately as a special education and preschool teacher for 40 years. After retirement in 2022 Lori maintained a personal classroom in her home for her cherished granddaughter.

Lori was preceded in death by her parents Beverlee & Kenneth Carlson; and her brother Dale Carlson.

Lori is survived by her husband Joel Haggerty; children Mariya (Jacob) Laxen & Tara Haggerty; granddaughter Kaylee Laxen; adopted mother Jean Carlson; siblings Nancy (Jon) Dahlin, Randy (Patti) Carlson, Roger (Stephanie) Carlson, Craig (Kelsey) Carlson, Robyn Carlson, Renee Carlson, Kelly (John) Holtzman; many nieces & nephews; many other close relatives and friends.

The memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, May 18 at Shepherd of The Valley Lutheran Church at 12650 Johnny Cake Ridge Rd in Apple Valley, MN with a visitation starting at 11 a.m. Memorials preferred to the MDS Foundation.
