Arden, Catherine Elizabeth Age 81, of Lake Elmo, died on April 7 of complications of dementia. Preceded in death by parents, Catherine E and Daniel Beisel of Green Bay, Wisconsin. Catherine led a long, richly rewarding life of purpose and grace, anchored in a deep Christian faith, and centered on her role as life partner, and mother and grand-mother, to Kristen, her daughter, and Daniel, her son, and their children. Kate was exceptional on a number of levels. In addition to being a loving nurturing mother and consummate homemaker, she achieved at a high level academically, she was salutatorian of her high school class, a comparative literature major at U of Wisconsin and did graduate work at U of Minnesota. She grew into a deep appreciation of scripture, was active in Bible Study Fellowship and assumed positions of increasing leadership during her 14 years of association. She was also active in church life and served in a variety of capacities. Further, she was active in golf at Town & Country Club for many years, winning the women's club championship on two occasions. In all these activities she established many affirming relationships through her graciousness and gregarious personality. She was loved and valued by many. In addition, the breadth of her interests included enjoying Minne-sota Orchestra symphony concerts with her husband, a deep apprec-iation for the boundary waters at the family retreat center outside Ely, and travel with her husband, particularly to Europe. Kate is survived by her husband of 59 years, Eldon, daughter Kristen and her children, Iris and Trygg, and her son Daniel, his wife Anne and their two children, Everett and Isabelle. Survived also by her three sisters, Peggy of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Sarah of Martha's Vineyard and Jane of Dallas, Texas and a myriad of nieces and nephews from their families. Blessed is her memory. A brief private family ceremony celebrating her remarkable life will be convened at a later date.
