Rozenbergs, Aina (Porietis) Age 90 passed away peacefully on February 14, 2024. She was born on June 6, 1933, in Riga, Latvia, the daughter of Tedis and Emma (Miezaks) Porietis. She leaves behind son Viktors (Ilze) and daughter Vivita (Kevin), grandson Sam, nieces, nephews, and godchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Uldis, younger twin sisters Rita and Dagne, and godmother Nate. When Latvia was engulfed in WWII, her family fled the war and spent 7 years in displaced persons camps in Germany. They emigrated to the USA in 1951 where Aina remained a Minneapolis resident for the next 70 years. Aina worked as an x-ray technician and an AT&T telephone operator, and later earned a bachelor's degree from the University of MN. Family, community, and love of her homeland were of utmost importance to Aina. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, aunt, cousin, and a loyal friend to many. She particularly treasured her Seward neighbors. Kind, easy going, quick to smile and laugh, she radiated goodness. Aina was an avid reader, took delight in solving the daily cryptoquip puzzle in the StarTrib and watching Eastenders on PBS. An integral part of the Latvian diaspora, Aina participated in church and the ladies aid group, book club and bible study, sang in the choir, attended Latvian song and dance festivals, and other cultural events. She cherished her Selga sorority sisters. In retirement, Aina was a regular traveler to her Latvian homeland, connecting with relatives, making new friends, and attending every possible theater, opera, and musical performance. She loved flowers, feeding the birds, sitting and reading in her garden all summer long. Aina was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
