Heckman, Betty Jean 85, of Bloomington, MN, born in Omaha, Nebraska, passed away on July 11. She had several successful careers: loving wife, mother, Chamber of Commerce manager, and legal secretary. She kept track of details large and small with her sharp mind and 100+ word/minute typing wizardry. During their 52 years of marriage, Betty and her husband, Harley, opened their hearts and home to foreign exchange students and foster children. They also provided numerous abandoned and geriatric special needs pets a loving home. In her seventies, Betty applied for her first passport showing her adventurous spirit when she took a solo international trip. She traveled to spend time with former exchange students in Japan, Australia, and Taiwan who had come to think of her as their "American Mom" due to her kind and generous soul. She was active in her church, most recently at Salem UCC in Steinauer, Nebraska. The Pawnee County Historical Society also benefited from her volunteer efforts where she often volunteered. Betty brought joy to everything she did. Our lives are richer and more joyful for having known her. She is survived by; Daughter, Laurie Ann Heckman Bryant (Patrick); grandchildren William and Samantha Bryant; Daughter-in-law Barbara Roach; grandchildren Jason and Daniel Heckman; great-grandchildren Jon and Emily Heckman. Betty was preceded in death by Husband, Harley Franklin Heckman (d. March 23, 2009), Son, Richard Lee Heckman (d. September 13, 1988), parents Earl and Myrtle (Keller) Anderson, and Brother Bill Anderson (d. 1954)
