Dunlop, James N. (Jim) II 81, passed away on January 24, 2022 at A Villa Richfield care home in Richfield, Minnesota. Born on July 22, 1940 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he was the son of the late James A. Dunlop and Margaret Genevieve (Tow) Dunlop. He was a 1958 graduate of Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, Iowa and was graduated in 1962 with a B.S. degree in Economics from Colorado College, Colorado Springs, Colorado. He worked as a fundraiser for the College and as a reporter for the Des Moines Register and Worcester Telegram & Gazette in Massachusetts. He then attended Medill School of Journalism, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, earning a Master's Degree in Journalism in 1968. After a brief time working in public relations, he became the Program Director for the World Press Institute based at Macalester College, St. Paul, Minnesota. He entered into public service working as the public information officer for the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Hennepin County Park System, Minnesota State Auditor, and Minnesota State Treasurer, where he also served as Deputy Treasurer. He was the Reform Party candidate for State Treasurer in 1998. Jim was passionate about being of service to others and continued this mission in death by making an anatomy bequest to the University of Minnesota Medical School. His remains contributed to research in macular degeneration and the education of the next generation of physicians. He requested no formal memorial service, but those who would like to honor his life may make a charitable donation in his name to an environmental or social cause, or attend the Service of Gratitude held by the Anatomy Bequest Program at the University of Minnesota Medical School. The next service is 2:00 pm Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Northrop Auditorium on the University of Minnesota's Minneapolis campus. He is survived by two sons, Tony (Roxanne) Dunlop and Edward Dunlop as well as one daughter, Sarah Dunlop, and one sister Nancy (Torstein) Lund.
