Mazig, Aloysius "Al" passed away on April 27, 2023 - he was welcomed by loved ones who went before him, and surrounded by his family. Al is survived by his wife Terry, his children, Sarah, Rachel, and Anna, son-in-law Peter, and his grandchildren, Joe and Max. Born and raised in Kenya, East Africa, he came to the United States for college, where he met Terry. He graduated from St. Mary's, eventually running his own business. Terry and Al were married, moved to Minneapolis, and had their three daughters. An engineer by trade, Al was innately inquisitive: always tapping and tinkering, he wanted to know things in and out - pulling machines apart and putting them back together, his natural way of being was to know and understand, through and through. Al always offered a helping hand, aiding local kids with their bike maintenance, neighbors with a ladder and a solution, or simply directing the work. He was always ready to dive into a project and saw to it that it was done right and done well. Once completed, he'd offer you a beer and conversation about topics that enticed a healthy debate, with humor and wit to boot. A visitation & service are scheduled for 11:30am & 12-noon on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at St. Joan of Arc in Minneapolis. Donations can be made to the family, who are providing scholarships for college students, in honor of Al and his passion for lifelong learning. An informal social gathering will be held at Tailgate Bar in Minneapolis from 4-6pm, Al's favorite spot to meet his buddies for a beer and conversation. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the Abbott physicians, nurses, specialists, and loved ones for their amazing support and consistency through Al's care, hospice, and passing. If you didn't know Al, you missed out on a man who persevered through all of life's challenges with an uncouth joke in his back pocket a man who loved to connect with backyard wildlife a man who publicly cared for his community and privately loved his family You missed out on a good man who lived a beautifully full life, and in any situation, was gone too soon. Nakupenda papa wangu.
