Scheller, Dr. Michael James "Jim" 84, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on January 31, 2023. Born in Minneapolis, MN, Jim attended high school in Wayzata, MN and then served in the United States Army, 82nd Airborne, with the Military Police and as a Paratrooper. Jim went on to attend the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN, where he played football and accepted a commission as an officer in the United States Air Force (USAF). As a Forward Air Controller overseas, he met and married a young teacher, Patricia, and later became a Fighter Pilot flying the F-4. After serving in the USAF, Jim pursued a civilian career in Dentistry, graduating from the University of Minnesota as Doctor of Dental Surgery. While practicing Dentistry for 32 years in St. Louis Park, MN, Jim continued to fly helicopters and provide dental support in the Guard. Jim's passion was golf and he had the distinction of winning the Minnesota State Men's Senior Open in 1990 and the Minnesota State Amateur in 1991. A longtime member of Golden Valley Country Club, Jim had 15 Holes In One including two in one round, reported by ESPN in May 2002 as a feat with the odds of 67 million to one. Part of a large musical family, Jim enjoyed singing with the Minneapolis Commodores and playing the bass. Survived by his wife of 59 years Patty, daughter Denise and son Michael, Jim also has six grandchildren: Seth, Natasha, Larissa, Mackenzie, Ella Rae, and Tyler and four great-grandchildren: Lucas, Aubrey, Addison and Sophia. Jim is also survived by sisters Mary Jo, Denise, and Elizabeth and brothers Bill and Rich. Jim was an incredible father, brother, friend and mentor to many. Many friends will miss his golf lessons, wit, and sense of humor. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 28, 2023, at 11 AM at the Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas located at the University of St. Thomas; 2115 Summit Avenue; St. Paul; Visitation one hour prior. A private military service and interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials preferred to be sent to Disabled American Veterans.
