Nelson, Charles F. Age 83 of Edina and Grey Eagle MN peacefully passed away on December 14th, 2022 surrounded by the love of his family and caregivers at English Rose Suites Interlachen, Edina. He was born on September 17, 1939 in Spring Valley, Minnesota to Arnold and Gladys Nelson. Preceded in death by his parents and brothers Wesley and John Nelson. He will dearly be missed by his wife of 58 years, Lucy; daughters Sandy (Joe) Edina; Katie (Chris) Shakopee, grandchildren Molly (Aaron), Grace, Lily, Sophie, nephews, nieces and many family and friends. He graduated from Spring Valley High School with fond memories of playing coronet for the marching band. He attended the University of Minnesota. Charlie and Lucy were married in Stillwater in 1964 and raised their daughters in Orono and at the family cabin on Little Birch Lake in Grey Eagle, MN. Charlie retired in 2004 from a lengthy career in insurance and IT. He had worked at the Sons of Norway, North American Life and Casualty/Allianz. Charlie enjoyed grilling, golf, reading, photography, cribbage, painting, searching for the best burger, boating, family dinners with a glass of red wine, winters in Arizona and lake time with family and friends. He is being remembered for his kindness, generous spirit, dry wit, integrity and shenanigans. He lived by the words "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all", "you are who your friends are, choose wisely", and "when cooking, choose something sweet, savory and a surprise". He was a wonderful husband, dad, umpa, uncle, brother and friend to many, he will be greatly missed. A celebration of life will be held Friday, January 20th at St. Joan of Arc in Minneapolis with visitation at 10 AM and service to follow at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers memorials to the following would be appreciated: The Little Birch Lake Association or the Grey Eagle Library.
