Johnson, Mary Ann (Hellum) of New Hope, Minnesota, passed away on August 1, 2022, at the age of 90. She was born and raised in Menomonie, Wisconsin, and received a B.A. and M.A. in Education from the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. She worked for many years in elementary education, primarily in the St. Louis Park school district. She married in 1967 and took a break from the teaching profession for about a decade when her children were young, but taught after-school piano lessons in those years and returned to the classroom when her children got older. She started a women's book club over 50 years ago and was an active member through 2019 - just a small part of maintaining the busiest social calendar one can imagine. She was always an active, involved member in a Lutheran Church, most recently Holy Nativity in New Hope. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Linné Johnson (2014) and is survived by her two children, Erik and Sarah, and her three grandchildren Maia, Benjamin, and Luke. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service at 3pm on Sunday, August 28, at Holy Nativity Lutheran Church in New Hope. Visitation with the family will begin at 2pm. Mary left (handwritten) instructions requesting donations to Luther Seminary in St. Paul or Holy Nativity Lutheran Church in lieu of flowers.
