Justin Carl Linde, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, grandson, godson, godfather, nephew, cousin, teammate, coach, friend, and beloved child of God, was born on February 8, 1989, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Kevin and Laurie Linde. Justin grew up in Bloomington, Minnesota with his two sisters, Kimberly and Allison.

As a sweet young boy, Justin was curious, silly, and science oriented. He loved swimming, baseball, hockey, skiing, and most of all snowboarding, lacrosse, and golf. His adventurous spirit took him on many trips where he fished, skied, hiked, and explored beautiful areas of the world. Justin loved his travels to the Minnesota north woods and lakes, Colorado, Montana, and especially Norway. He was an avid gardener, hunter, and trapper.

Justin attended Thomas Jefferson High School and studied Psychology and Environmental Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder. Go Buffs! Growing up, Justin worked at Hyland Greens Golf Course and Dwan Golf Course in Bloomington, Minnesota. Professionally, Justin worked at Buck Hill Ski and Snowboard Area as an outside operations supervisor and he considered his Buck team his family. Coaching with True Lacrosse gave Justin great joy as he was able to inspire players. Justin played lacrosse with the Isotopes Lacrosse Club, a box lacrosse team in the North American Box Lacrosse League. Justin loved all seasons, especially winter. As a member of the National Ski Patrol, Justin made sure everyone got down the mountain safely.

During Justin’s valiant four and a half year fight with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, he most notably, underwent a bone marrow transplant at the University of Minnesota Medical Center. Justin’s older sister, Kimberly, was a perfect match and was his bone marrow donor. Kimberly gave Justin the most special loving gift of cells with the hope that his disease would go into remission. Justin, receiving Kimberly’s cells along with hope, support, and prayers, was in remission for over two years. Justin participated in a CAR T-Cell therapy clinical trial at Mayo Clinic. Justin used hope as his superpower during this journey of extremes. Having hope with his rare and aggressive form of Leukemia required courage. An important part of Justin’s story is his care team, specifically his hematologist/oncologist and team lead, Dr. Warlick. Dr. Warlick was his teammate and Justin had so much trust in her. Dr. Warlick’s sincere care, compassion, knowledge, research, and recommendations all led to Justin’s remissions post relapse. Dr. Alkhateeb with Mayo Clinic in Rochester was also a teammate of Justin’s. He switched his care to Mayo Clinic because Dr. Warlick was no longer at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Alkhateeb expressed what a young and healthy man Justin was and they were, “going for a cure”. He fought so hard and as the palliative care nurse practitioner shared before Justin left the hospital to go home to receive hospice care, “Justin is not giving up, he’s done everything right, the medicine is not good enough.”

Justin passed away peacefully, on July 25, 2022, surrounded by family and wrapped in the love of the Holy Spirit.
