Merle Anderson of Anoka, MN, born August 14, 1932, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2022 surrounded by his family.

Merle was born and raised in Fergus Falls, MN. He was one of 10 children in the Anderson family and was the last surviving sibling.

In his early years, Merle was an avid outdoorsman, helped around the family farm, and loved playing baseball. After attending Fergus Falls high school, he got a job at Otter Tail Power Company as a draftsman. He joined the Army in 1952 and served in the Korean War.

After returning from the war, he stayed in the Twin Cities to attend the University of Minnesota where he met his wife of 60+ years, Mavis Hanson. They were married in 1956, moved to Anoka, and raised two sons who still live and work in the Twin Cities.

Merle found his calling in Public Affairs at Northern States Power Company, working as a lobbyist where he could use his negotiating skills, sense of humor and charm to their fullest. Merle loved to fish, play cards, and watch baseball, but his passion was golf. Merle golfed as often as he could and was lucky enough to have two holes-in-one.

In his later years, Merle remained sharp as a tack. He always had a smile for everyone he met. He spent his last days watching the Twins, enjoying golf on television, spending quality time with his family, and having meals with his buddies.

Merle is survived by his sons Mark (Marna) and Matthew (Jonelle). He was a proud grandfather to Elyse, Isabelle, Benjamin, and Thomas. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Mavis, his parents Alfred and Irene, and his nine brothers and sisters.
