Sorensen, James Elmer

It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of James Elmer Sorensen (78), May 24, 2022 surrounded by family and in the hearts of many. Jim was a son, a dad, a partner and a friend. He was beloved by many. As a 747 Captain for Delta Airlines he touched the hearts of people around the world, immersing himself in other cultures, learning phrases and languages of others. He loved Paris and Mumbai, Amsterdam and the North Shore. But more than any place, Jim loved Minneapolis and his home in the Kenwood neighborhood. Jim was a steward of the earth and kept his backyard creatures well fed. He was a lifelong learner and obtained his baccalaureate degree and studied the classics as a non-traditional student. He loved classical music and going to the symphony. Jim appreciated beautiful architecture, danish furniture and original art. He was an avid runner and was into health and fitness long before it was popular. Jim adored people and could make friends with anyone. He will be missed by many. He is survived by his partner Linda Hayes, his children Kristin (Bruce) and Eric (Maggie), five grandchildren Ari, Aaron, Alec, Aliya and Mason, four siblings Mike (Jeannie), Kate (John), Marg, Pat (Chrissy), his Aunt Pat and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Mary and Elmer Sorensen. Visitation, Celebration of Life and light luncheon will begin at 10 AM on June 3, 2022 at Saint Richards Catholic Church in Richfield. In lieu of flowers, please honor Jim by donating to Minnesota Public Radio, N.C. Little Hospice of Edina, Lewy Body Dementia Association.
