Swanson, Cynthia Hannah 69, of Naples, Florida, died at her home on the Gulf after a strong and brave 22-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Swanson. Survived by her father, Donald Swanson Sr, significant other, Paul Kurzeka, daughter Lisa (George) Kalantzakis, son Stuart (Maureen) Lindgren, grandchildren Spiros ("George"), Charles ("Chuck"), and Hannah, sister Janet (Scott) Webster, brother Donald Jr (Susan) Swanson, aunt Sally (Ray) Gleason, nieces, nephews, and 16 cousins. Born in Texas and raised in Hopkins, MN, Cynthia attended Colorado College and graduated from the University of Minnesota. Six days later she began working at Campbell Mithun Advertising. Little did she know that college courses in computer programming and statistics would begin a career analyzing media and market research data using computers for more than 30 years, 25+ years as a technology manager in the CM Media Department. She found the ever-changing field of computing - from main frames to PCs to the internet - was always interesting, and advertising was a fun place to work. Cynthia devoted herself to her children. She walked miles on golf courses, cheered from the bleachers at ball games, sat in cold ice arenas, stood on snowy ski slopes, ran concession stands, planned banquets, and served on boards. She rarely took time for herself. Cynthia was most proud that her children grew up to be kind, hard-working, compassionate adults with loving families of their own. Cynthia and Paul reconnected at a class reunion. Sharing a love of travel, they set out to see the world. They attended wedding festivities in Peru and Italy, explored Machu Pichu, the Galapagos Islands, Korea, Japan, Tahiti, Greece and other parts of Europe, and had many adventures across the United States. They skied in Switzerland and had season passes at Mammoth Mountain. They both loved cruising and went on one or two cruises each year. Every year they spent four weeks in French Saint Martin. Cynthia valued and treasured her friends: from kindergarten, high school, college and work, along with new friends made while traveling. She was an example of femininity combined with a steely core - lovely and gracious, kind and curious, smart and industrious, sensible, beautiful and loving, with a smile and positive spirit that will always be remembered by those she touched. The family would like to thank nurses Jay, Lisa, and Yoli at Heart 2 Heart in Naples for their kindness and loving care over the last year. Private service for family only. In lieu of customary remembrances, and for those who desire, donations can be made to Girls Who Code (give.girlswhocode.com) in memory of Cynthia Swanson.
