Ravdin, Dr. Jonathan was born on December 7, 1949 in Brooklyn, New York. He passed away peacefully on April 26, 2022 with his wife Marcie and their children at his side, shortly after a massive stroke. Dr. Ravdin graduated cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering from The City College of New York. Jonathan attended Tufts University Medical School, followed by Internal Medicine residency at The New York- Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, and an Infectious Diseases fellowship at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, where he joined the faculty. Dr. Ravdin served as Vice Chairman of Medicine & Professor of International Health at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, as well as Chief of Medicine at the Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1996, Dr. Ravdin was recruited to the University of Minnesota as Nesbitt Chair and Head of the Department of Medicine. From 2008-2011, he served as Dean and Executive Vice President of the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, finishing his 30-year career as a physician and scientist at Paragon Development Systems, assuming the role of president and CEO in 2012, retiring in 2015. His academic passion focused on research and treatment of infectious disease & global health, Jonathan, internationally renowned for research and teaching, traveled extensively as an honorary guest speaker educating and leading physician scientists on Entamoeba histolytica, authoring several books considered essential in his field of research. He was destinguished for his work as a Master of the American College of Physicians. Jonathan and Marcie met as colleagues at the University of MN Medical School and wed in 2003. They united their children into a spirited & warm-hearted blended family, always the greatest source of pride & joy for him, the children often seeking his advice and wise counsel as they navigated into adulthood. Two granddaughters made Jonathan a proud "Poppa." Along with his beloved wife Marcie, he leaves sons Jeremy & Graham (Keidi), step-children Darren Glisan (Marion) and Meryl Larson (Dane) & grand-daughters Lennon & Issa. He also leaves behind a brother Lee and his wingman in life-cousin Jeff. Jonathan's generosity and influence touched so many people. He was a uniter, a joyful man of medicine and science with an appreciation of those who had a great passion for making a difference. He will be greatly missed by cherished friends and talented, inspired colleagues.
