Westin, Richard Allen 83, of Bloomington, MN, passed away on May 1, 2022. Richard was born on July 25, 1938 to Ella (Moe) and LaRoi Westin at Abbott Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Richard grew up in Richfield and was confirmed at Oak Grove Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Boy Scouts earning his Eagle award and later became a troop leader, passing along his love of scouting to the next generation. After attending Washburn High School in Minneapolis he transferred to Richfield High School and was a member of the very first graduating class of 1956 participating in football, track, and student council. After graduation, Richard joined the US Army and was a member of the 25th Infantry stationed on the Big Island of Hawaii for 2 years. Richard attended the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy and was a member of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity. While interning at the Nicollet Clinic he met his future wife, Marlene (Jerve). Richard graduated in June of 1965 and they were married in September of the same year at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Benson, MN. Richard was a pharmacist for 50 years and was owner of both Hanson Drug in Bloomington and The Medicine Shoppe in St. Paul. Richard was a lifelong learner, avid reader, and history buff. He was also a hunter and fisherman exploring Alaska, Canada, The BWCA, The Dakotas and numerous other places making lifelong friends everywhere he went. He delighted in sharing these adventures with his children, grandchildren and dear friends. Richard always loved road trips and in retirement Richard and Marlene were able to travel to Florida for extended vacations, exploring the country and visiting friends along the way. Richard was preceded in death by his parents Ella and LaRoi Westin, His brother and sister-in-law Robert and Darlene Westin, niece Kimberly (Westin) Corbett, and Fred Farr (husband of his niece and God-daughter Linda (Westin) Farr). Richard is survived by his loving wife Marlene, whose wonderful care gave him so much comfort, joy, and peace allowing him to remain in the home he loved until his passing. He is also survived by his daughter Jennifer, her husband Jeffrey Benke, Son Daniel and his wife Kris; Grandchildren Anna (Benke) Blasey (Brian), Sarah Benke, Julia, Molly, and Benjamin Westin; Great Grandson Lincoln Blasey; his sister and brother-in-law Diane and Douglas Lees; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends. Memorial Service will be held Monday, May 16 at 3PM at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, 5025 Knox Ave S, Mpls, with visitation one hour prior. Memorials preferred to Cathedral of the Pines Camp. A special thank you to the Allina Hospice caregivers and Mount Olivet pastoral staff who were always so kind and caring.
