May, Jane Anne On Wednesday, March 16, 2022, Jane May, a loving wife and mother of seven children, passed away at the age of 72. Jane was born on November 28, 1949, in Springfield, Illinois, to Herman and Norma Jane Raman of Pleasant Plains, Illinois. She was raised on the family farm in Pleasant Plains and graduated from Pleasant Plains high school in 1967 as the class Valedictorian. Jane received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from Northeastern Illinois University. She taught behavioral disordered students as well as middle school students in Arlington Heights, Illinois, for seven years. She was an Associate Principal in Barrington and Des Plaines, Illinois, for six years. On August 2, 1992, Jane married William Glenn May and took on the huge and complex job of raising seven children. Jane was always quick to point out that she contributed two children to the blended family, while Bill added five to the mix. Jane treated each and every one of her seven children with the same love and care and was always so proud of their accomplishments. Jane had a "million-dollar smile" and she was as beautiful inside as she was outside. Everyone liked her wit, her kindness, her excellent sense of humor and her giving, generous nature. Jane and Bill were fortunate to travel all over the world, but her favorite trip was to Africa to visit a young man she sponsored in Kenya. She also sponsored young people in Guatemala and Colombia. Jane loved exchanging letters with her young people. Jane was a gourmet cook known for her scalloped pineapple and deep butter coffee cake. Jane was a volunteer at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, Connecticut. She was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Wrightsville Beach, and she was always active in her children's sports activities. As a lifelong dancer, Jane loved Zumba, doing the splits with her many grandchildren, and going to fitness classes with her husband Bill. Jane had natural platinum blond hair which her grandmother called her crowning glory. Jane had an adventurous side too. She was a graduate of the Skip Barber Auto Racing School and proudly displayed her certificate and her picture seated in a yellow Formula Ford. Jane was preceded in death by her father, Herman, and her mother, Norma Jane. She is survived by her husband, Bill; her brothers, Jon Raman and David Raman; her seven children, Steve Schickel, Lisa Wetter, Cathy Cloud, Jeff May, Lauren Woodruff, Mike McGuire and Marianne Drew; as well as 21 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. This great lady will be missed by many she touched during her lifetime. A memorial service will be held at 4:00pm, April 29, 2022, at Minnesota Valley Country Club in Bloomington, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
