Sommer, Stephen Curt 83, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2022 at Arbors at Ridges in Burnsville. Steve was born March 8, 1938, in Red Wing, MN the son of Curtis and Corinne Sommer. Sadly, his mother died during his birth. He was raised by his father's parents, Gus and Hanna Sommer in Barnesville, Faribault, and Minneapolis. He graduated from Washburn High in 1955. He attended the University of Minnesota in Business and Pharmacy graduating in 1960. He met the love of his life, Mary Hart (Brisbane) Sommer while working at Keller Drug Store. They were married June 24, 1961. He had a long career as a Pharmacist at Keller Drug and then Snyder Drug Stores. He enjoyed working and engaging with people. Steve and Mary made their home in Burnsville, MN where they had 3 children, Curt, Heidi, and Ann. He loved spending time with his family and adored his grandchildren. Steve loved to travel, see the world, and document their travels with many pictures. He and Mary found special joy in Hawaii spending many winters there and building a community of friends. In addition to Hawaii, they had many trips to Europe and a few to the South Pacific. He enjoyed volunteering in the Mission Outpost. He will always be remembered with a smile on his face, fun loving ways, and his big heart. Even after he lost some mobility, he had a positive outlook and loved to ride his scooter to local stores and around the lake. He was preceded in death by his mother Corinne Dorothy (Boxrud) Sommer, father Curtis Eickhof Sommer, stepmother Jane (Gilbertson) Sommer, infant daughter Heidi Ann Sommer, Grandparents Gus and Hannah, infant great grandson Oliver Noe Helvick, and his two close aunts Doris and Glenora Sommer. He is survived by his loving wife Mary, son Curt (Joanna) Sommer, daughter Ann Helvick, grandchildren Kyle (Kristen) Sommer, Allison (Andrew) Anderson, Erik Sommer, Christopher (Nicole) Helvick, Zach Helvick, Malia Helvick, great grandson Emmett Sommer, sister Susan (Paul) Dragsten, brother Craig (Chris) Sommer, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at 10am with a memorial service at 11am on February 22 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Burnsville. The family extends deep gratitude to the staff at Arbors for the exceptional care they provided him. The family requests memorials to Mission Outpost at Prince of Peace. The family requests that everyone wear a mask.
