Devany, Robert C. (72) passed peacefully surrounded by love on January 16, 2022 after a courageous 2 year battle with cancer and complications of diabetes. He was born to John and Mary Devany on October 1, 1949 in Brooklyn, NY. He graduated from Brooklyn Prep Jesuit High School and attended Westmar College in LaMars, Iowa. There he made several lasting friendships that brought him to Minnesota, where he pursued a life long profession as a carpenter. Throughout his career Bob taught and mentored many young people who have colorful stories to tell about this remarkable man and his approach to his trade and his life. He was most proud of the beautiful lake home he built outside Bemidji, where friends and family were always welcome and fish were sometimes plentiful. Bob volunteered for 30 years at Caring and Sharing Hands and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Robbinsdale, where he also volunteered his time and talent. Bob will always be remembered as the quiet and generous man of faith with the remarkable moustache. He is survived by his brothers Peter (Kathy), Paul (Lynn) and his sister Cathy (Paul) Dieringer, A brother John (Jeanine) have passed. Bob is also survived by nieces and nephews Caitlin, Matthew and Melissa Dieringer, Jamie, Michael and Anna Devany, and Christopher Devany, many cousins, his special friend of 27 years, Kathleen Flanagan and her children Kevin Flanagan and Meaghan (Cole) Angle and their children Faith and Teague Flanagan and Kiera and Bryn Angle, who were their "Boba" Bob's greatest joy. He also lives on in the hearts of extended family, and a multitude of lifelong friends and their children, to whom he was an honorary brother and uncle. Memorials are preferred to Sharing and Caring Hands or Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A Mass and Celebration of Life will be held at Sacred Heart, 4087 W. Broadway, Robbinsdale, MN 55422 at 11:00 on March 5, 2022. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30-11:00, with a private burial at Grant Lake, Bemidji later this spring.
