Daniel "Dan" passed away peacefully at the age of 78 in his home, surrounded by family, on December 9, 2021. Born June 29, 1943, to Delvere and Dorothy (Wente) Debe, he was a lifelong South Minneapolis resident. He was a Boy Scout who began summer work at age 11 at Big Island Veterans Camp on Lake Minnetonka (1954-1978). After his graduation in 1961 from Roosevelt High School, he attended the University of Minnesota and participated in the ROTC program. He remained a loyal season ticket holder of both Minnesota Gopher football and basketball throughout his life. Dan was a life-long member at Lake Nokomis Lutheran Church (LNL). Dan was a gifted salesman. He began his career selling kitchen countertops and transitioned to selling Case Uni-Loaders in 1973. He worked out of the Case factory store for 19 years. Dan had a personal interest in real estate and acquired several rental properties. He continued to sell equipment independently and manage his properties. Dan's "work hard, play hard" determination, physical strength, and "glass half full" outlook was infectious and cherished by many. He always enjoyed socializing with his family and his friends. One of Dan's greatest passions was sports, playing and coaching softball and basketball for decades in his community. He was an avid card player and regularly met with a group of Poker Club friends since 1964. Dan also played Cribbage (Debe Rules w/ Jokers), Spades, and Pinochle. He spent time playing ping-pong and Ms. Pac-Man challenging any unsuspecting opponent who happened to stop by. Dan enjoyed listening to music and was musically inclined himself playing both the banjo and the bugle. He loved traveling and was an outdoor enthusiast. He took great pleasure in skiing, camping, golfing, boating, and relaxing at "the lake" and Boyd Lodge for holiday weekends. Dan is survived by his loving partner, Diane Spicer; children, Dan (Jen) Debe II, Donna (Chris) Heim, and Jori (Larry) Irish Sova; sister, Diana (Ken) Kleven; brothers, Dave Debe and Dennis (Ellen) Debe; and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and life-long, close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Duane Debe. A special thank you to the U of MN hospitals/cardiac care teams for their expertise, and Moments Hospice for their care and support for Dan and his family. Celebration of Life: May 14, 2022, in Minneapolis. Details will be posted prior to the date.
