Pitmon, Wayne Monroe July 27, 1929 Nov. 22, 2021 passed away peacefully in Shelburne, VT where he and his wife of 68 years, Donna had recently moved. He was born in Minneapolis, MN to Elsie Falconer and Adron "Ed" Pitmon and is preceded in death by them and his brother Adron "Ade" Pitmon. Wayne graduated from Robbinsdale High School where he was Class President and a star pitcher for the Robins baseball team. He went on to earn a B.S. degree in Education from the University of Minnesota in 1951 and was a pitcher on the University baseball team. He taught Industrial Arts courses in Rochester, MN before gaining a position at Honeywell as a machinist. He later earned his Professional Engineering designation. He soon enrolled in the Naval OCS at Newport, RI in 1954 - the same year he married his high school sweetheart, Donna Rae Lovelace. Wayne spent 4 years as a Naval officer followed by 20 years in the Naval Reserve. Upon returning to civilian life, he took a position at the 3M Company in St. Paul and where he enjoyed a 26-year career - the last 4 1/2 years at the office in Brussels, Belgium. Just before he started with 3M, he spent 3 adventurous months in Bombay, India in 1966 when he was asked to spearhead a Tool and Die training program funded by the Ford Foundation in cooperation with the Dunwoody Institute. He and Donna raised their 4 children in New Hope, MN before his eventual retirement and a move to Vadnais Heights. They were longtime members of the 1st Congregational Church of Robbinsdale and were very active in church life until their move to Vermont a year ago. They both enjoyed sailing together on White Bear Lake with friends in the Black Bear Yacht Club. Wayne was an enthusiastic and lifelong woodworker who made beautiful furniture for his children and grandchildren. His family and friends will all remember him for his loyalty, his quick, dry wit and for the many charitable endeavors that he lent his time and skills to. Wayne is survived by his wife Donna and his children Stephen (Tammy), Brenda (Mark Keller), Spencer (Melissa), and Linda (Steve Wynn), as well as his grandchildren Adron, Elise, Blake, and Erin. Contributions could be made in Wayne's memory to Habitat for Humanity (habitat.org) or Boomstick23 (boomstick23.org) which is a non-profit organization committed to empowering young people in situations of social vulnerability through education and sports. Burial and private family service will be held at Fort Snelling Cemetery.
