Carney, Peter Ralph of Eagan, MN died serenely at the Our Lady of Peace Hospice on September 18, 2021, in St. Paul, MN at the age of 88. Peter is survived by his wife, Karen Carney; son Patrick Carney; daughter & son-in-law, Jennifer & Mark Krueger; granddaughter Alexandra Lentz; step-granddaughter Danielle Krueger; sisters-in-law Bernie Carney, Amy Carney, Barb Tingley; brothers-in-law Roger Thompson & Ron Hildeen; & numerous nieces & nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wallace & Lillian Carney; and brothers, Jack Carney & James Carney. Peter was born on February 7, 1933, in Grand Forks, ND. He graduated from East Grand Forks High School in 1951 and later completed a bachelor's degree in 1958 in Education. He served in the US Army between 1953-1955 and was stationed at Ft. Kobbe, Panama Canal Zone for the duration of his service. He married Karen Thompson, Green Bay native, in 1966. After moving to Minneapolis, Peter began working for NSP (now Xcel) where he would work in various roles for 35 years until his retirement in 1995. The couple joyously welcomed two children into their home. His children remember him as a funny, responsible, and even-keeled father who encouraged them to pursue their goals & passions. Peter coached his daughter's softball team for many years during her adolescence. Peter also volunteered his expertise with the local Boy Scout Troop, serving as treasurer as his son attained the rank of Eagle. Upon retirement, Peter became an accomplished artisan, crafting elaborate stained-glass windows. He surprised himself after his submissions took first place on four occasions at the Minnesota State Fair. Peter was a generous, sharp, dedicated, and talented man who loved gardening, playing & watching sports, woodworking, reading, and gourmet cooking. He was passionate about learning world history & international travel. Over his lifetime, Peter and his wife visited nearly 50 countries on six continents. He was a devout member of Catholic Church and attended mass weekly his entire life. A funeral was held on September 25, 2021 at Mary, Mother of the Church in Burnsville. Father Jim Perkl officiated the private family ceremony. Peter is scheduled for interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
