Robert “Bob” Bollweg, 73, of St. Paul, died peacefully on Sept. 10, 2021, surrounded by his children and wife.

Bob grew up in St. Louis Park, MN, where he attended Holy Family school and church. After graduating from the University of Minnesota, he was drafted into the Army and served in the Vietnam War. Upon returning to the Twin Cities, Bob met his wife, Sharon. The couple raised their children, Lara and Nicholas, in Minneapolis and Edina, with a stint in Atlanta, Georgia.

Bob’s career in information technology spanned multiple industries. Beginning with college jobs at IBM and Northwest Airlines, he rose to the Director of Credit of NWA early in his career.  He then embraced the digital age in financial software roles at Sperry Univac, Unisys, Best Buy, and U.S. Bank. Bob developed a reputation for being a manager who understood those who worked for him. His warm, friendly demeanor and ability to make conversation led him to form connections with so many he met.

Bob’s interests included genealogy, camping, biking, canoeing, and following many U of MN and local pro sports teams. He was a huge supporter of women’s sports teams, especially the Minnesota Lynx. He loved bringing his grandchildren to sporting events as well as attending all their games, recitals, and events – a tradition that began with his own children.

In their later years, Bob and Sharon fulfilled a lifelong dream to own a log cabin in the north woods of Minnesota. Bob relished giving his grandkids rides on his golf cart, cutting the grass and cruising the lake on the pontoon.  They spent many years enjoying cabin life together with their family and friends and are happy that the tradition will continue through their children and grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sharon Bollweg (McCauley); daughter Lara Bollweg (Gary Mortensen), son Nicholas Bollweg (Brigid); grandchildren Sofia and Felix Mortensen and Evangeline Bollweg; brothers Ralph (Judith Teumer), George (Peggy Martini), James (Nancy), sister Teri, nieces Kristin Andrews (McCauley), Erin Daniel (McCauley), and Jane Bollweg and sister-in-law Joyce McCauley.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Theresa Bollweg (Broeth).

A funeral mass will be held for immediate family on Saturday, September 25th at noon at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church located at 4537 3rd Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55419.

A Celebration of Life will immediately follow as an outdoor open house for all who knew Bob from 2-5pm at Veterans Memorial Park Picnic Pavilion located at 6335 Portland Avenue, Richfield, MN 55423.

Memorial donations can be made, in Bob’s name, to the Paul and Sheila Wellstone Muscular Dystrophy Center Fund (med.umn.edu/mdcenter) where he participated in research due to his late on-set of FSHD Muscular Dystrophy disease.
