Hanson, John Eldor Born in Minneapolis 93 years ago John graduated from Roosevelt High School and Augsburg College with a degree in Philosophy. After graduating from college, John continued his life-long quest for knowledge throughout his marriage to Phebe Hanson and long career with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board. He raised three children, fostered six additional children, and enjoyed significant time with his nine grandchildren. After his divorce John partnered with Judyth Bigelow and became a bonus father/grandfather to her children and grandchildren. John was very active in many aspects of his community. He recorded books for the blind, taught English to refugees, led a Minneapolis Community Ed writing course and participated in numerous book clubs. He sang in the Lake of the Isles Lutheran church choir. He headed a monthly shelter meal program preparing and serving meals to homeless people. John enjoyed conversations with whomever happened to be in close proximity. He eagerly looked forward to his weekly Friday morning coffee klatch with friends and acquaintances. Into his eighties and nineties John walked a mile every day of the year and swam (except Dec. 25 as the pool was closed!). Looking to the future, John bequeathed his remains to further the education of U of MN medical students. Following is a partial list of those whom he touched with his love, dignity, generosity and knowledge.
