Walczak, David M. Age 55, of Minneapolis. Dave passed away September 5 from an apparent heart attack at a Kentucky Derby party with close friends at his side. He died doing the thing he loved best on his favorite day of the year. David is preceded in death by his mother, Karin, and his father, Hubert. He is survived by his cherished stepmother, Zuyi Gu, beloved brother, Daniel (Mary), loving sister, Julia Sawyer (Stephen), beloved nieces and nephews: Blake Sawyer, Rachel Moline (Nate), and Samuel Walczak (Rachel), and grandniece Lauren. David was the valedictorian at St. Thomas Academy (class of 1982), graduated with Mathematics and Computer Science degrees from the College of St. Thomas, and went on to a successful career as an Actuary (FSA). He was a wicked smart "numbers guy" with a charismatic and magnetic personality. Dave would light up a room with his charm, humor, quick wit and smile. Dave made lifelong friends instantly. He was humble, kind, caring, and loyal with a huge loving heart, open to all. He would have given the shirt off his back to help anyone. Some of Dave's greatest passions included listening to live music (especially the Grateful Dead), statistical analysis/handicapping of horse races, playing chess, his infamous "fun kit," karaoke with friends, team trivia and Norwalk, CT (his "second home"). A COVID compliant Mass of Christian Burial (masks required) will be held on Saturday, September 12, at 11 a.m., at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Eagan with streaming available at stream.sjn.org. A private interment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery where he will be buried near his parents. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to molomedicalmissions.org or St. Thomas Academy; referencing David on your STA donation will direct it to a scholarship fund to be established in his honor.
