Johnson, Clyde Wesley Age 91- Passed on May 29, 2020 Known for his forever big smile, his witty comebacks and his unselfish kindness, he was truly a content man. Born January 15, 1929 in Duluth, MN (he was proud of sharing his birthdate with MLK Jr.), Clyde graduated from Denfeld HS in 1946. He graduated from UMD in 1950, served in the army1950-52, was united in marriage to Bernadette Whalen in 1953, and moved to Brooklyn Center in 1956 where they raised 4 children. Clyde had a 34 year career as an elementary teacher mainly in NE Minneapolis at Pillsbury School. He loved to golf, fish, camp, gamble, play volleyball, watch sports, and solve Sudokus. He was a hockey coach and Little League umpire. "The ump is always right", was a favorite saying. He could be counted on to compose a sentimental poem to celebrate key events in the lives of his family. In retirement he volunteered at Caring and Sharing Hands every Tuesday, washing dishes. He was dubbed "St. Clyde." He also spent fun times at the cabin on Lake 11, had the World's longest running Boggle competition with his wife, Bernie (over 10,000 games), enjoyed Thursday nights at the Legion and pork chop dinners at the VFW. But most of all, Clyde found joy in spending time with family. He will be greatly missed by children: Jill Kufrin, Gary (Katie), Tom (Jayne) and Chuck (Anne); grandchildren Drew (Dana), Joe (Brooke), Sarah (Chad), Derek (Megan), Dane (Tasha), Emily (Robbie), Becca (Garrett), Jackie (Luke) and Cooper; 13 great grandchildren and many dear friends. A heartfelt thanks goes to St. Therese Oxbow staff for their wonderful care. Donations in his memory may be made to Sharing and Caring Hands (525 N 7th St, Mpls, MN 55405) or Cystic Fibrosis Foundation by logging onto CFF.org and donating thru the Jackie Coopers Team. Due to pandemic, the family will have a private backyard bonfire to share stories and drink cheap beer in Clyde's honor.
