Haverstock, James Edward October 28, 1925 May 31, 2020 Born October 28, 1925 in Minneapolis, MN. Jim grew up near John Burroughs School at 5210 Girard Ave. South. He graduated from Shattuck Military School at Faribault, MN. He was drafted into the Army in 1944 and became a radio operator. Jim was sent to fight in the Battle of the Bulge in Germany and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Good Conduct Badge. He was promoted to the Rank of Sergeant. After the war ended, Jim spent eight months in London, England at the Guild Hall of Music and Drama. He memorized twenty-five poems and enjoyed reciting them to friends and family in his later years. Returning home to Minneapolis, Jim attended the University of Minnesota where he met his future wife Jean. He joined the Brokerage Firm of Woodard-Elwood Company as an Investment advisor. He later joined Robert W. Baird & Company of Milwaukee. In his 30 years there, he became the Minneapolis Office Manager and First Vice President of the Company. In Jim's retirement years he continued to manage many accounts as a Registered Investment Adviser. Jim served on a number of Foundation Boards: Courage Center as President for 25 years, Salvation Army Harbor Light, served for 25 years and was elected President, served on the Wayzata Community Church Board for several years and served on the Board of the Minneapolis Lions Club and was President for a year. Jim enjoyed sailing with his lovely wife Jean, at the Lake Minnetonka Yacht Club. He enjoyed golf and tennis at Woodhill Country Club, downhill skiing and walking. He was an avid hunter and wrote two books on bird hunting. One book on Sharp-tail Grouse Hunting and one on Goose Hunting. He loved his hunting trips to Canada. Jim is survived by two sons James S. Haverstock (Steve) and Raymond S. Haverstock. Five grandchildren: Tyler S. Haverstock, Spencer P. Haverstock, Kristine J. Hendrickson (Haverstock), Jessica E. Haverstock and Michael E. Haverstock. Preceded in death by his wife Jean S. Haverstock, and siblings: Henry Haverstock, Laura Miles, Charlie Haverstock and Nathan Haverstock. During these trying times of the corona virus and social distancing, the family is limited to a small family service at the grave site.
