Smetana, William J. "Bill" February 4, 1939 - May 10, 2020 Of Eden Prairie MN, died peacefully on May 10, 2020 at the age of 81, from complications of Parkinson's disease, Lewy bodies dementia and COVID-19. Bill grew up in Hopkins, MN on a farm where he helped his family with truck, gardening / farming and continued to help his parents, brother and Aunt Rosie selling fresh vegetables, and raspberries at the Farmers Market in Hopkins. He graduated from Hopkins High School 1958, graduated from the MN School Of Business in 1959 and then The University of MN. He worked at Long Lake Ford Tractor for 20+ years as an accountant before going out on his own as a tax preparer for 60 years. He enjoyed spending time with his kids, grand kids and friends. He loved fishing and bowling. He was a member of the Hopkins Elk Club for 30 years and also actively involved with Faith Presbyterian Church in Minnetonka, being a youth group teacher, usher, the treasurer and later becoming a part of the Cemetery Committee. He is preceded in death by his wife Carol Smetana, parents Joe and Helen Smetana, brother Richard "Dick" Smetana and sister-in-law Mary Smetana. Survived by his 3 loving children, William "Bill" Jr, Connie (Dean), Sherrie (Dan) Smetana, step children, Scott (Sue) Mehr, Ann (Willie) Williams, Mary Meeks and Dale Mehr, loving grandchildren, Shawn and Brittany McHale, Mikayla and Brandie Healy, Danielle Blevins, Bella and Olivia Smetana and Cadia Gren, step grandchildren, Nicole, Adam, Madison Mehr, William, Tanner Meeks, Kevion and Trisha. A celebration of life will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Elks Youth Camp and Faith Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund. Dad you will be greatly missed, we love you!
