Schimke, Peter 'Pete' Adam age 59, lost his battle with depression on Sunday, February 23, 2020, in Minneapolis. He was born May 9, 1960, in Minneapolis to Robert 'Bob' and Kathleen 'Kay' (McCabe) Schimke. In his early life, Peter played varsity hockey and soccer for Benilde-St. Margaret. He began his musical career as a drummer with The New Psychenauts. Peter went on to graduate with a degree in Music Performance from William Paterson University in New Jersey and teach at the McNally Smith School of Music in St. Paul. He was an internationally celebrated jazz pianist, and his music took him all over the world. Peter put his whole heart into his art, winning recognition from many musical legends. He will be remembered for holiday jam sessions in the Dupont living room with the whole family, especially with his dadhis biggest fanon drums. Peter engaged in and supported his nieces' and nephews' musical endeavors. He was a beloved brother, son, uncle, great-uncle, mentor, and friend, sharing his gifts, warmth, and stories with all those who crossed his path. Peter was preceded in death by his father, Robert; brother-in-law, Robert 'Bob' Meisch; sister-in-law Susan 'Sue' Schimke; nephew Johnny Becker, and grandparents. Peter is survived by his mother, Kay; siblings Robert Schimke Jr., Ann Meisch, Paul (Nancy) Schimke, Sara (Jim) Harris, and Phil (Nicole) Schimke; nieces and nephews, Katie (Scott) Williams, Matty Harris, Rosie Harris, Ben (Natalie) Schimke, Cedar (Alex) Schimke, Alex Schimke, and Vivian Schimke; grandnephews Henry, Arlo, Ringo, and Bryson; and grandniece Lillian. Service and celebration of life postponed until further notice.
