Carlson, Alfred Daniel age 84, passed away on January 22, 2020. Husband and father of five daughters, he was resourceful and self-reliant. As a young man, he served in the Army, worked two jobs to support his family, and later became a Project Engineer at Tennant holding nine patents. He instilled a sense of adventure in his daughters, visiting many National Parks by tent trailer. He was a self taught and accomplished wood carver and painter, as well as a Senior Olympic swimmer, winning many ribbons and medals. After retirement, a WI lake cabin became a treasured home, enjoyed by the extended family until their relocation to Phoenix, AZ. With a strong sense of duty, he helped to care for both his daughter and his wife during their life ending illnesses. Survived by daughters, Laurie Skaj, Teresa Kratoska (Paul), Christine Schiebel hut, Liz Carlson; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by wife Mary Carlson, and daughter, Kathy Steffe. Memorial celebration of life Monday, March 2, 2020 at Brooklyn Park Community Center, 5600 85th Ave. N., Brooklyn Park, MN 55443, 763-493-8333. Visitation at 10AM (with shared stories and lunch). Burial at Fort Snelling at 2PM. Memorials preferred to Hospice of the Valley, Phoenix AZ.
