Reimer, George A. Age 88, of Minneapolis. Passed away Dec. 3, 2019. George was born Aug. 26, 1931 in Reedley, CA. His parents having recently immigrated to the US from a German Mennonite community in Russia, escaping into China and eventually finding sponsorship in Reedley, CA. George graduated from Immanuel High School in Reedley, completed his bachelor's degree at UCLA and eventually his Master's degree from UC Berkeley. George also served 2 years of non-combat service and was stationed in Germany during that time. George taught German and History at Porterville High School for 4 years and then went on to a 32 year career at Edina High School as both a German and Russian language instructor. George served many years as the coordinator of the Minnesota State German Foreign Exchange Program and was the Director of the German language camps through Concordia College. He also led five European cycling tours with his language students. George served in many volunteer capacities throughout his life including Meals on Wheels for 10 years, Habitat for Humanity for 10 years, ESL instructor for local high schools and multiple church committees. George was known throughout the community as an avid reader, cyclist, gardener, and faithful walker around Lake Harriet for over 60 years. George was best known as a humble, quiet, kind, steady man who always led by example. George is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kathryn; sisters, Martha Enns and Virginia Rogalsky; children, Gregory, Kristine (Stephen) Sheerin, and Paul (Jeannette); grandchildren, Alicia, Mateo, Annika, Anamaria and Tomas. A Celebration of Life service is to be held Jan. 11, 2020, 11 am at Mayflower United Church of Christ, 106 E. Diamond Lake Rd., Minneapolis, MN. Memorials preferred to Mayflower UCC or UNHCR (UN Refugee Agency).
